Ingredients
| 1 cup | flaxseeds |
| 1 tablespoon | oil |
| 2 tablespoons | tamarind pulp |
| 3 tablespoons | jaggery |
| 1 teaspoon | mustard seeds |
| 1 teaspoon | cumin seeds |
| 2 tablespoons | chana dal |
| 2 tablespoons | urad dal |
| 5-6 | dried red chilies |
| 1 pinch | asafoetida |
| 1 teaspoon | salt |
| 1 cup | water |
Instructions
- 1 Heat a pan on medium flame and dry roast the flaxseeds until they start to pop. Set aside to cool.
- 2 In the same pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add cumin seeds, chana dal, urad dal, and dried red chilies.
- 3 Fry the mixture until the dals turn golden brown. Add asafoetida and remove from heat.
- 4 In a blender, combine the roasted flaxseeds, fried spice mixture, tamarind pulp, jaggery, salt, and water.
- 5 Blend until you get a smooth paste. Adjust the consistency by adding more water if needed.
- 6 Taste and adjust salt or jaggery according to preference.
Tips
Store the chutney in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
