Ingredients

2 cups whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon ajwain seeds
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons ghee or oil
as needed water
as needed ghee or oil for cooking

Instructions

  1. 1 In a mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour, ajwain seeds, and salt.
  2. 2 Add ghee or oil to the flour mixture and mix well until it resembles breadcrumbs.
  3. 3 Gradually add water and knead into a soft dough. Cover and let it rest for 15 minutes.
  4. 4 Divide the dough into equal portions and roll each portion into a ball.
  5. 5 Flatten each ball slightly and roll it out into a circle of about 6 inches in diameter.
  6. 6 Heat a tawa or skillet over medium heat.
  7. 7 Place the rolled paratha on the hot tawa and cook for about 1-2 minutes until bubbles appear.
  8. 8 Flip the paratha and apply ghee or oil on the cooked side.
  9. 9 Cook the other side until golden brown spots appear, then flip again and apply ghee or oil on the other side.
  10. 10 Press gently with a spatula to ensure even cooking and crispness.
  11. 11 Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls.
  12. 12 Serve hot with yogurt, pickle, or any curry of your choice.

Tips

For a softer paratha, use warm water to knead the dough.
