Ingredients
| 2 cups | whole wheat flour |
| 1 cup | water |
| 1 tablespoon | oil |
| — | salt to taste |
Instructions
- 1 In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt.
- 2 Gradually add water to the flour mixture, mixing continuously to form a soft dough.
- 3 Add the oil to the dough and knead it well for about 5-7 minutes until the dough is smooth and pliable.
- 4 Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 15 minutes.
- 5 Divide the dough into small equal-sized balls.
- 6 On a floured surface, roll out each ball into a thin, round chapati using a rolling pin.
- 7 Heat a tawa or flat skillet over medium heat.
- 8 Place a rolled chapati on the hot tawa and cook for about 30-40 seconds until small bubbles appear on the surface.
- 9 Flip the chapati and cook the other side for another 30-40 seconds.
- 10 Press down gently with a spatula to help it puff up and cook evenly.
- 11 Remove the chapati from the tawa and keep it warm in a cloth-lined container.
- 12 Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls.
Tips
For softer chapatis, ensure the dough is well-kneaded and rested.
