Ingredients
| 1 cup | all-purpose flour |
| 1 cup | semolina |
| 1 pinch | salt |
| 2 tablespoons | ghee |
| as needed | water |
| 1 cup | jaggery |
Instructions
- 1 In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, semolina, and a pinch of salt.
- 2 Add ghee to the dry ingredients and mix well until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
- 3 Gradually add water to form a smooth, stiff dough. Cover and let it rest for 20 minutes.
- 4 Take small portions of the dough and roll them into small balls.
- 5 Using a gavvalu maker or the back of a fork, press each ball to form shell shapes.
- 6 Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
- 7 Deep fry the shaped dough pieces until they turn golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- 8 In a separate pan, melt jaggery with 1/2 cup water to make a syrup. Add cardamom powder and mix well.
- 9 Add the fried gavvalu to the jaggery syrup and mix until well coated.
- 10 Allow them to cool slightly before serving.
Tips
Ensure the dough is not too soft to retain the shape of the shells during frying.
