Ingredients
| 1 cup | dried figs (anjeer) |
| 1/2 cup | milk |
| 1/4 cup | ghee |
| 1/2 cup | sugar |
| 1/4 teaspoon | cardamom powder |
| 2 tablespoons | cashew nuts |
| 2 tablespoons | almonds |
| 2 tablespoons | raisins |
| 1 tablespoon | pistachios |
| — | saffron strands (a pinch) |
Instructions
- 1 Soak the dried figs in warm water for 30 minutes to soften them.
- 2 Drain the figs and blend them into a coarse paste using a little milk.
- 3 Heat ghee in a heavy-bottomed pan over medium heat.
- 4 Add the cashew nuts, almonds, and pistachios, and fry until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
- 5 In the same ghee, add the fig paste and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring continuously.
- 6 Add the remaining milk and sugar to the pan, and mix well.
- 7 Cook the mixture until it thickens and the ghee starts to separate from the sides.
- 8 Add cardamom powder and saffron strands, and mix well.
- 9 Stir in the fried nuts and raisins, reserving a few for garnish.
- 10 Cook for another 2-3 minutes, then remove from heat.
- 11 Garnish with the reserved nuts and serve warm.
Tips
Ensure to stir the halwa continuously to prevent it from sticking to the pan.
