Ingredients
| 1 cup | raw rice |
| 1/4 cup | urad dal (split black gram) |
| 1/4 cup | poha (flattened rice) |
| 1/2 cup | grated coconut |
| 1/2 teaspoon | fenugreek seeds |
| — | salt to taste |
| — | oil for greasing |
Instructions
- 1 Wash and soak the rice, urad dal, and fenugreek seeds together in water for 4-5 hours.
- 2 Rinse the poha in water and soak it for 10 minutes before grinding.
- 3 Drain the soaked rice and dal mixture.
- 4 Grind the rice, dal, poha, and grated coconut together into a smooth batter, adding water as needed.
- 5 Transfer the batter to a large bowl, cover, and let it ferment overnight or for 8-10 hours.
- 6 Once fermented, add salt to the batter and mix well.
- 7 Heat an appe pan and grease each cavity with a little oil.
- 8 Pour a spoonful of batter into each cavity of the appe pan.
- 9 Cover and cook on medium heat until the bottom is golden brown.
- 10 Flip the appe using a skewer or spoon and cook the other side until golden brown.
- 11 Remove from the pan and serve hot with coconut chutney or sambar.
Tips
Ensure the batter is well-fermented for soft and fluffy appe.
