Ingredients

1 cup raw rice
1/4 cup urad dal (split black gram)
1/4 cup poha (flattened rice)
1/2 cup grated coconut
1/2 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
salt to taste
oil for greasing

Instructions

  1. 1 Wash and soak the rice, urad dal, and fenugreek seeds together in water for 4-5 hours.
  2. 2 Rinse the poha in water and soak it for 10 minutes before grinding.
  3. 3 Drain the soaked rice and dal mixture.
  4. 4 Grind the rice, dal, poha, and grated coconut together into a smooth batter, adding water as needed.
  5. 5 Transfer the batter to a large bowl, cover, and let it ferment overnight or for 8-10 hours.
  6. 6 Once fermented, add salt to the batter and mix well.
  7. 7 Heat an appe pan and grease each cavity with a little oil.
  8. 8 Pour a spoonful of batter into each cavity of the appe pan.
  9. 9 Cover and cook on medium heat until the bottom is golden brown.
  10. 10 Flip the appe using a skewer or spoon and cook the other side until golden brown.
  11. 11 Remove from the pan and serve hot with coconut chutney or sambar.

Ensure the batter is well-fermented for soft and fluffy appe.
