Ingredients
| 1 cup | all-purpose flour |
| 1/2 teaspoon | salt |
| 1/2 cup | unsalted butter, chilled and diced |
| 3 tablespoons | ice water |
| 2 cups | thinly sliced, peeled apples |
| 1/4 cup | granulated sugar |
| 1/4 cup | packed brown sugar |
Instructions
- 1 In a large bowl, combine 1 cup of flour and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
- 2 Cut in 1/2 cup of chilled, diced butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- 3 Stir in 3 tablespoons of ice water, a tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together.
- 4 Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- 5 Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- 6 Roll out the dough on a floured surface to fit a 9-inch pie pan.
- 7 Place the rolled dough into the pie pan and trim the excess dough.
- 8 In a bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice.
- 9 Mix 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1 tablespoon flour, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg.
- 10 Add the sugar mixture to the apples and toss to coat.
- 11 Pour the apple mixture into the prepared crust and dot with 1 tablespoon of butter.
- 12 Cover with a lattice crust or another rolled crust, sealing the edges.
- 13 Cut small slits in the top to allow steam to escape.
- 14 Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes.
- 15 Reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 20-25 minutes until the apples are soft and the crust is golden brown.
- 16 Allow the pie to cool before serving.
Tips
For a glossy finish, brush the top crust with a beaten egg before baking.
