Ingredients

2 tablespoons oil
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 pinch asafoetida
2 cups chopped cabbage
1 cup chopped potatoes
1 cup chopped onions
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon red chili powder
1 teaspoon garam masala
2 tablespoons freshly grated coconut
2 tablespoons chopped coriander leaves

Instructions

  1. 1 Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
  2. 2 Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  3. 3 Add cumin seeds and asafoetida, sauté for a few seconds.
  4. 4 Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
  5. 5 Add chopped potatoes and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. 6 Add chopped cabbage, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
  7. 7 Cover and cook on low heat for about 15 minutes or until the vegetables are tender.
  8. 8 Stir in the garam masala and cook for another 2 minutes.
  9. 9 Garnish with freshly grated coconut and chopped coriander leaves before serving.

Tips

For a smoky flavor, you can cook the bhaji on an open flame for a few minutes before serving.
