Ingredients

1 cup urad dal (split black gram)
1 cup chana dal (split Bengal gram)
2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
2 tablespoons finely chopped green chilies
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon coriander seeds
1 teaspoon red chili powder
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
salt to taste
1 cup water
oil for deep frying

Instructions

  1. 1 Wash and soak the urad dal and chana dal together in water for 4-5 hours or overnight.
  2. 2 Drain the soaked dals and grind them into a coarse paste using a little water.
  3. 3 In a mixing bowl, combine the dal paste with ginger-garlic paste, green chilies, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt.
  4. 4 Mix the batter thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined.
  5. 5 Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
  6. 6 Take a small portion of the batter and flatten it slightly with your hands to form a patty.
  7. 7 Carefully slide the patty into the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy on both sides.
  8. 8 Remove the bara from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  9. 9 Repeat the process with the remaining batter.
  10. 10 Serve hot with chutney or sauce of your choice.

Tips

Ensure the oil is hot enough before frying to prevent the bara from absorbing too much oil.
