Ingredients

200 grams basa fish fillets
1 tablespoon mustard oil
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon red chili powder
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 medium tomato, chopped
1 cup water
salt to taste
2 tablespoons fresh coriander leaves, chopped

Instructions

  1. 1 Cut the basa fish fillets into medium-sized pieces.
  2. 2 In a bowl, marinate the fish with turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Set aside for 15 minutes.
  3. 3 Heat mustard oil in a pan over medium heat.
  4. 4 Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  5. 5 Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté until the raw smell disappears.
  6. 6 Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.
  7. 7 Add the chopped tomato and cook until it turns soft and the oil separates.
  8. 8 Add the marinated fish pieces and gently stir to coat them with the masala.
  9. 9 Pour in the water, cover, and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes until the fish is cooked through.
  10. 10 Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.

Tips

For a richer flavor, you can add a pinch of garam masala towards the end of cooking.
