Ingredients

3 medium potatoes
2 tablespoons oil
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 pinch asafoetida
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
2 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander
2 tablespoons grated coconut
2 green chilies, finely chopped
1 lemon, juiced
salt to taste

Instructions

  1. 1 Peel and dice the potatoes into small cubes.
  2. 2 Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
  3. 3 Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  4. 4 Add cumin seeds and asafoetida, and sauté for a few seconds.
  5. 5 Add the diced potatoes and turmeric powder, and mix well.
  6. 6 Cover and cook on low heat until the potatoes are tender, stirring occasionally.
  7. 7 Add salt, green chilies, and lemon juice, and mix thoroughly.
  8. 8 Garnish with chopped coriander and grated coconut before serving.

Tips

For a spicier version, increase the number of green chilies.
