| 1 cup | besan (gram flour) |
| 1/2 cup | whole wheat flour |
| 1 teaspoon | ajwain (carom seeds) |
| 1 teaspoon | red chili powder |
| 1 teaspoon | salt |
| 1 tablespoon | ghee or oil |
| 1/4 cup | finely chopped onions |
| 1/4 cup | finely chopped coriander leaves |
| — | water as needed |
Instructions
- 1 In a large mixing bowl, combine besan, whole wheat flour, ajwain, red chili powder, and salt.
- 2 Add ghee or oil to the flour mixture and mix well until it resembles breadcrumbs.
- 3 Add chopped onions and coriander leaves to the mixture and mix well.
- 4 Gradually add water and knead into a smooth dough. The dough should be soft but not sticky.
- 5 Divide the dough into equal-sized balls.
- 6 Roll each ball into a round disc about 6 inches in diameter using a rolling pin.
- 7 Heat a tawa or skillet over medium heat.
- 8 Place the rolled roti on the hot tawa and cook until bubbles start to form on the surface.
- 9 Flip the roti and cook the other side until golden brown spots appear.
- 10 Apply a little ghee or oil on both sides and cook for another minute.
- 11 Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls.
- 12 Serve hot with yogurt or pickle.
Tips
Ensure the dough is not too sticky by adjusting the water amount as needed. Serve immediately for the best taste.
