Ingredients

3 medium onions
1/2 cup besan (gram flour)
2 tablespoons peanuts
2 tablespoons sesame seeds
1 tablespoon coriander powder
1 teaspoon cumin powder
1 teaspoon red chili powder
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon garam masala
1 teaspoon sugar
to taste salt
2 tablespoons oil
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 tablespoons fresh coriander leaves, chopped

Instructions

  1. 1 Peel the onions and make a cross slit on each, keeping the base intact.
  2. 2 In a bowl, mix besan, peanuts, sesame seeds, coriander powder, cumin powder, red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, sugar, and salt.
  3. 3 Add lemon juice and chopped coriander leaves to the mixture and mix well to form a stuffing.
  4. 4 Stuff each onion with the prepared mixture, pressing gently to fill the slits.
  5. 5 Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
  6. 6 Place the stuffed onions in the pan, cover, and cook on low heat.
  7. 7 Turn the onions occasionally and cook until they are tender and the stuffing is cooked through, about 20-25 minutes.
  8. 8 Serve hot with roti or rice.

Tips

For a richer flavor, roast the peanuts and sesame seeds before adding to the stuffing mixture.
