Ingredients

2 cups water
2 tablespoons black tea leaves
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup yak butter or unsalted butter
1/2 cup milk
1 pinch baking soda

Instructions

  1. 1 Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a saucepan.
  2. 2 Add the black tea leaves and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.
  3. 3 Strain the tea into a churn or a large container suitable for shaking.
  4. 4 Add salt, butter, milk, and baking soda to the strained tea.
  5. 5 Pour the mixture back and forth between two containers several times to mix well and create a frothy texture.
  6. 6 Alternatively, churn the mixture vigorously using a butter churn or shake it in a tightly sealed container until frothy.
  7. 7 Serve the butter tea hot in cups.

Tips

For an authentic taste, use yak butter if available. Adjust the salt to taste based on preference.
