Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup water
1 large egg
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
oil for cooking

Instructions

  1. 1 In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, turmeric, and cardamom.
  2. 2 Add the egg and water to the dry ingredients and whisk until you have a smooth batter.
  3. 3 Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat and lightly grease it with oil.
  4. 4 Pour a small ladle of the batter into the pan and spread it into a thin circle.
  5. 5 Cook until bubbles form on the surface and the edges start to lift, about 2-3 minutes.
  6. 6 Flip the chabab and cook for another 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
  7. 7 Repeat with the remaining batter, greasing the pan as needed.
  8. 8 Serve warm, optionally with honey or date syrup.

Tips

For a richer flavor, add a pinch of saffron to the batter.
