Ingredients

200 grams mushrooms
1 tablespoon mustard seeds
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
2 tablespoons mustard oil
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
2 teaspoons red chili powder
1 cup grated coconut
2 green chilies
1 inch ginger
1 clove garlic
1 teaspoon sugar
salt to taste
1 cup water
1 handful coriander leaves

Instructions

  1. 1 Clean and slice the mushrooms into thin pieces.
  2. 2 In a blender, make a paste of mustard seeds, cumin seeds, grated coconut, green chilies, ginger, and garlic with a little water.
  3. 3 Heat mustard oil in a pan until it reaches smoking point, then reduce the heat.
  4. 4 Add the mustard paste to the pan and sauté for a few minutes until the raw smell disappears.
  5. 5 Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt to the paste and mix well.
  6. 6 Add the sliced mushrooms to the pan and stir to coat them with the spice mixture.
  7. 7 Add a cup of water and sugar, then cover and cook on low heat for about 15-20 minutes until the mushrooms are tender.
  8. 8 Garnish with chopped coriander leaves before serving.

Tips

For a more authentic taste, use freshly ground mustard seeds.
