Ingredients

1 cup rice
1/2 cup urad dal (split black gram)
1 cup water
1/2 teaspoon salt
oil for frying

Instructions

  1. 1 Wash the rice and urad dal thoroughly under running water.
  2. 2 Soak the rice and urad dal together in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  3. 3 Drain the soaked rice and dal, and grind them into a smooth batter using a little water.
  4. 4 Add salt to the batter and mix well. The batter should be of pouring consistency.
  5. 5 Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
  6. 6 Once the oil is hot, pour a ladleful of batter into the oil.
  7. 7 Fry the chausela until it turns golden brown and crispy on both sides.
  8. 8 Remove the chausela from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  9. 9 Repeat the process with the remaining batter.
  10. 10 Serve the chausela hot with chutney or any side dish of your choice.

Tips

Ensure the batter is not too thick or too thin for the perfect chausela texture.
