Ingredients
| 1 cup | chilka urad dal (split black gram with skin) |
| 1 cup | rice |
| 1 medium | onion, finely chopped |
| 2 | green chilies, finely chopped |
| 1 teaspoon | ginger, grated |
| 1/2 teaspoon | cumin seeds |
| 1/4 teaspoon | turmeric powder |
| — | salt to taste |
| — | oil for cooking |
| 2 tablespoons | fresh coriander leaves, chopped |
Instructions
- 1 Wash and soak the chilka urad dal and rice together in water for 4-5 hours or overnight.
- 2 Drain the soaked dal and rice, then grind them into a smooth batter using a little water. The consistency should be similar to pancake batter.
- 3 Transfer the batter to a bowl and add chopped onions, green chilies, grated ginger, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix well.
- 4 Heat a non-stick pan or tawa over medium heat and drizzle some oil on it.
- 5 Pour a ladleful of batter onto the pan and spread it evenly to form a pancake.
- 6 Cook on one side until golden brown, then flip and cook the other side until crisp and cooked through.
- 7 Repeat the process with the remaining batter.
- 8 Serve the chilka daal pancakes hot, garnished with fresh coriander leaves.
Tips
For a spicier version, increase the number of green chilies. Serve with mint chutney or yogurt for a refreshing taste.
