Ingredients

Peanut 1 cup Peanut
oil 2 tablespoons Oil
Mustard Seed 1 teaspoon Mustard Seed
Cumin 1 teaspoon Cumin , seeds
asafoetida 1 pinch Asafoetida
Curry Leaf 8-10 Curry Leaf
Onion 2 medium Onion , finely chopped
turmeric powder 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder
red chili powder 1 tablespoon Red chili powder
godamasala 1 teaspoon Godamasala
jaggery 1 teaspoon Jaggery
Tamarind 1 tablespoon Tamarind , pulp
water 2 cups Water
salt Salt , to taste
Cilantro 2 tablespoons Cilantro , fresh, chopped

Instructions

  1. 1 Roast the peanuts in a pan until golden brown. Allow them to cool, then grind them coarsely.
  2. 2 Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add cumin seeds, asafoetida, and curry leaves.
  3. 3 Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
  4. 4 Stir in the turmeric powder and red chili powder, and cook for another minute.
  5. 5 Add the coarsely ground peanuts and mix well.
  6. 6 Pour in the water and bring the mixture to a boil.
  7. 7 Add goda masala, jaggery, tamarind pulp, and salt. Stir to combine.
  8. 8 Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes until the flavors meld together.
  9. 9 Garnish with fresh coriander before serving.

Tips

For a richer taste, you can add a spoonful of coconut milk towards the end of cooking.
