Ingredients

1 cup gavda beans (field beans)
2 tablespoons oil
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 pinch asafoetida
10-12 curry leaves
2 tablespoons grated coconut
2 green chilies, slit
0.5 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon red chili powder
1 teaspoon jaggery
to taste salt
2 tablespoons chopped coriander leaves

Instructions

  1. 1 Soak the gavda beans overnight or for at least 8 hours.
  2. 2 Drain the soaked beans and set aside.
  3. 3 Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
  4. 4 Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  5. 5 Add cumin seeds, asafoetida, and curry leaves, and sauté for a few seconds.
  6. 6 Add the slit green chilies and sauté for a minute.
  7. 7 Add the drained gavda beans and mix well.
  8. 8 Stir in the turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt.
  9. 9 Add about 1/2 cup of water, cover, and cook until the beans are tender.
  10. 10 Once the beans are cooked, add grated coconut and jaggery, and mix well.
  11. 11 Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the flavors meld together.
  12. 12 Garnish with chopped coriander leaves before serving.

Tips

Adjust the amount of water based on the consistency you prefer for the curry.
