Ingredients

2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup water
2 tablespoons ghee
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup ghee for cooking

Instructions

  1. 1 In a large mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour and salt.
  2. 2 Gradually add water and knead into a soft dough. It should be pliable but not sticky.
  3. 3 Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 15 minutes.
  4. 4 Divide the dough into small, equal-sized balls.
  5. 5 Roll out each ball into a thin, round disc using a rolling pin.
  6. 6 Heat a tawa or flat skillet over medium heat.
  7. 7 Place the rolled-out dough on the hot tawa.
  8. 8 Cook until small bubbles form on the surface, then flip.
  9. 9 Apply a small amount of ghee on the cooked side and flip again.
  10. 10 Press gently with a spatula to help it puff up.
  11. 11 Repeat the process for the other side, applying ghee as needed.
  12. 12 Remove from heat once both sides are golden brown and cooked through.
  13. 13 Repeat for the remaining dough balls.

Tips

For softer rotlis, ensure the dough is well-kneaded and rested.
