Ingredients
| 2 cups | puffed rice (mandakki) |
| 1 medium | onion, finely chopped |
| 1 medium | tomato, finely chopped |
| 1 tablespoon | peanuts |
| 1 teaspoon | mustard seeds |
| 1 teaspoon | cumin seeds |
| 1 pinch | asafoetida |
| 1 teaspoon | turmeric powder |
| 1 tablespoon | cooking oil |
| 1 small | green chili, finely chopped |
| 2 tablespoons | coriander leaves, chopped |
| 1 tablespoon | lemon juice |
| — | salt to taste |
| — | sev for garnish |
Instructions
- 1 Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
- 2 Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds, and let them splutter.
- 3 Add peanuts and fry until they turn golden brown.
- 4 Add asafoetida, chopped green chili, and onions. Sauté until onions turn translucent.
- 5 Add turmeric powder and chopped tomatoes. Cook until tomatoes soften.
- 6 Add salt and mix well.
- 7 Turn off the heat and add the puffed rice to the mixture. Mix until the puffed rice is well coated with the masala.
- 8 Add lemon juice and chopped coriander leaves. Mix well.
- 9 Serve the girmit topped with sev for garnish.
Tips
For a spicier version, add more green chilies or a pinch of red chili powder.
