Ingredients

1 cup jaggery
1 cup rice
1/2 cup moong dal
1/2 cup fresh grated coconut
1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
2 tablespoons ghee
10-12 cashew nuts
10-12 raisins
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 cups water

Instructions

  1. 1 Wash the rice and moong dal together thoroughly and drain the water.
  2. 2 In a pot, add the washed rice and moong dal along with 4 cups of water and a pinch of salt. Cook until they are soft and mushy.
  3. 3 In another pan, melt the jaggery with a little water to make a syrup. Strain to remove impurities.
  4. 4 Add the jaggery syrup to the cooked rice and dal mixture. Stir well and let it cook on low heat for 5-10 minutes.
  5. 5 In a small pan, heat ghee and fry the cashew nuts and raisins until golden brown. Add them to the rice mixture.
  6. 6 Add grated coconut and cardamom powder to the mixture and stir well.
  7. 7 Cook for another 2-3 minutes until everything is well combined and aromatic.
  8. 8 Serve hot, garnished with extra fried nuts if desired.

Tips

Ensure the jaggery syrup is free of impurities by straining it before adding to the rice mixture.
