Ingredients
| 1 cup | jaggery |
| 1 cup | rice |
| 1/2 cup | moong dal |
| 1/2 cup | fresh grated coconut |
| 1/4 teaspoon | cardamom powder |
| 2 tablespoons | ghee |
| 10-12 | cashew nuts |
| 10-12 | raisins |
| 1/4 teaspoon | salt |
| 4 cups | water |
Instructions
- 1 Wash the rice and moong dal together thoroughly and drain the water.
- 2 In a pot, add the washed rice and moong dal along with 4 cups of water and a pinch of salt. Cook until they are soft and mushy.
- 3 In another pan, melt the jaggery with a little water to make a syrup. Strain to remove impurities.
- 4 Add the jaggery syrup to the cooked rice and dal mixture. Stir well and let it cook on low heat for 5-10 minutes.
- 5 In a small pan, heat ghee and fry the cashew nuts and raisins until golden brown. Add them to the rice mixture.
- 6 Add grated coconut and cardamom powder to the mixture and stir well.
- 7 Cook for another 2-3 minutes until everything is well combined and aromatic.
- 8 Serve hot, garnished with extra fried nuts if desired.
Tips
Ensure the jaggery syrup is free of impurities by straining it before adding to the rice mixture.
