Ingredients

2 cups jowar flour
1 cup water
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 small carrot, grated
2 tablespoons coriander leaves, finely chopped
2 teaspoons green chili, finely chopped
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
salt to taste
oil for cooking

Instructions

  1. 1 In a large mixing bowl, combine jowar flour, onion, carrot, coriander leaves, green chili, cumin seeds, and salt.
  2. 2 Gradually add water to the mixture, kneading it into a soft dough. The dough should be pliable but not sticky.
  3. 3 Divide the dough into small portions, roughly the size of a lemon.
  4. 4 Take a portion of the dough and flatten it between your palms to form a disc.
  5. 5 Place the disc on a plastic sheet or banana leaf and gently pat it out into a thin circle, using your fingertips.
  6. 6 Heat a griddle or tawa over medium heat and grease it lightly with oil.
  7. 7 Carefully transfer the flattened rotti onto the hot griddle.
  8. 8 Cook for 2-3 minutes on one side, then flip and cook the other side until golden brown spots appear.
  9. 9 Repeat the process with the remaining dough portions.
  10. 10 Serve hot with chutney or curry of your choice.

Tips

Use a damp cloth to help pat the dough if it sticks to your fingers.
