Ingredients
| 1 cup | khoya (mawa) |
| 1/4 cup | all-purpose flour |
| 1/4 teaspoon | baking soda |
| 1 tablespoon | milk |
| 1 cup | sugar |
| 1 cup | water |
| 4-5 | green cardamom pods |
| 1 teaspoon | rose water |
| 1 cup | ghee or oil for frying |
| 10-12 | almonds or pistachios for garnish |
Instructions
- 1 In a bowl, crumble the khoya and mix it with all-purpose flour and baking soda.
- 2 Add milk gradually and knead into a soft dough without any cracks.
- 3 Divide the dough into small equal portions and roll them into smooth balls.
- 4 In a deep pan, heat ghee or oil on medium heat for frying.
- 5 Fry the balls on low heat until they turn golden brown, ensuring they cook evenly.
- 6 In a separate pan, combine sugar and water. Heat until the sugar dissolves completely.
- 7 Add crushed cardamom pods and rose water to the sugar syrup and simmer for 5 minutes.
- 8 Once the fried balls are ready, soak them in the warm sugar syrup for at least 30 minutes.
- 9 Garnish with sliced almonds or pistachios before serving.
Tips
Ensure the sugar syrup is warm, not hot, when soaking the gulab jamuns to keep them soft.
