Ingredients

basmati rice 2 cups Basmati rice
Chicken 200 grams Chicken , cut into pieces
mustard oil 1 tablespoon Mustard oil
ginger-garlic paste 1 teaspoon Ginger-garlic paste
Onion 1 medium Onion , sliced
Tomato 1 medium Tomato , chopped
turmeric powder 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder
red chili powder 1 teaspoon Red chili powder
Cumin 1 teaspoon Cumin , powder
coriander powder 1 teaspoon Coriander powder
salt Salt , to taste
water 2 cups Water
Cilantro 2 tablespoons Cilantro , chopped

Instructions

  1. 1 Wash and soak the basmati rice for 30 minutes.
  2. 2 Heat mustard oil in a pan over medium heat.
  3. 3 Add the sliced onions and sauté until golden brown.
  4. 4 Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for another minute.
  5. 5 Add the chicken pieces and cook until they turn white.
  6. 6 Stir in the chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften.
  7. 7 Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well.
  8. 8 Drain the soaked rice and add it to the pan, stirring gently to combine.
  9. 9 Pour in the water and bring it to a boil.
  10. 10 Reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and let it simmer until the rice is cooked and the water is absorbed.
  11. 11 Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.

Tips

For extra flavour, use whole spices like bay leaf, cardamom, and cinnamon in the oil first.
