Ingredients

1 loaf Italian bread
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
1 tablespoon olive oil
salt to taste
freshly ground black pepper to taste
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1 Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. 2 Slice the Italian bread loaf in half lengthwise.
  3. 3 In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter.
  4. 4 Add the minced garlic to the melted butter and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.
  5. 5 Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the chopped parsley, olive oil, salt, and black pepper.
  6. 6 Place the bread halves on a baking sheet, cut side up.
  7. 7 Evenly spread the garlic butter mixture over the cut sides of the bread.
  8. 8 If using, sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the top of the buttered bread.
  9. 9 Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden and crispy.
  10. 10 Remove from the oven, let it cool slightly, then slice and serve warm.

Tips

For a more robust flavor, consider adding a pinch of red pepper flakes to the garlic butter mixture.
