Ingredients
| 1 cup | Japanese short-grain rice |
| 1.25 cups | water |
Instructions
- 1 Measure 1 cup of Japanese short-grain rice and place it in a large bowl.
- 2 Rinse the rice under cold water, gently swirling the grains with your hand. Drain the water and repeat this process 3-4 times until the water is almost clear.
- 3 After rinsing, let the rice soak in fresh water for 30 minutes.
- 4 Drain the soaked rice using a fine-mesh sieve and transfer it to a pot with a tight-fitting lid.
- 5 Add 1.25 cups of water to the pot with the rice.
- 6 Cover the pot with the lid and bring it to a boil over medium-high heat.
- 7 Once it reaches a boil, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 12-15 minutes. Do not remove the lid during this time.
- 8 After simmering, remove the pot from the heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 10 minutes to allow the rice to finish steaming.
- 9 Fluff the rice gently with a rice paddle or fork before serving.
Tips
For best results, use a heavy-bottomed pot to prevent the rice from burning. Avoid lifting the lid during cooking to ensure even steaming.
