Ingredients
| 1 cup | urad dal (black gram) |
| 2 cups | water |
| 1 cup | sugar |
Instructions
- 1 Wash the urad dal thoroughly under running water and then soak it in 2 cups of water for about 3-4 hours.
- 2 Drain the soaked dal and grind it to a smooth batter using minimal water. The batter should be thick.
- 3 Add a pinch of salt to the batter and mix well.
- 4 Heat ghee or oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
- 5 Take a small portion of the batter, shape it into small flat discs, and gently slide them into the hot oil.
- 6 Fry the discs until they turn golden brown and crispy on both sides. Remove them using a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- 7 In a separate pan, combine 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water to make a sugar syrup. Add cardamom powder and bring it to a boil until it reaches a one-string consistency.
- 8 Dip the fried discs into the warm sugar syrup, ensuring they are well coated. Let them soak for a few minutes.
- 9 Remove the Jhili from the syrup and allow them to cool slightly before serving.
Tips
Ensure the batter is thick to get the perfect texture for Jhili. Fry on medium heat to cook them evenly.
