Ingredients

1 cup besan (gram flour)
2 tablespoons oil
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 pinch asafoetida
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 small green chilies, chopped
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon red chili powder
to taste salt
1 cup water
2 tablespoons fresh coriander leaves, chopped

Instructions

  1. 1 Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
  2. 2 Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  3. 3 Add cumin seeds and asafoetida, sauté for a few seconds.
  4. 4 Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
  5. 5 Add minced garlic and chopped green chilies, sauté for another minute.
  6. 6 Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt, stir well.
  7. 7 In a bowl, mix besan with water to form a smooth batter.
  8. 8 Gradually add the besan batter to the pan, stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
  9. 9 Cook the mixture on low heat, stirring frequently until it thickens and leaves the sides of the pan.
  10. 10 Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.

Tips

Serve with bhakri or chapati for a complete meal.
