Ingredients
| 1/4 cup | chana dal (split Bengal gram) |
| 1/4 cup | jaggery |
| 1 cup | coconut milk |
| 1/4 teaspoon | cardamom powder |
| 1 tablespoon | ghee |
| 8-10 | cashew nuts |
| 8-10 | raisins |
| 1 pinch | salt |
| 2 cups | water |
Instructions
- 1 Rinse the chana dal thoroughly and soak it in water for about 15 minutes.
- 2 Drain the water and pressure cook the chana dal with 2 cups of water for 2-3 whistles until it is soft but not mushy.
- 3 Once the pressure releases, open the lid and add jaggery to the cooked dal. Stir well until the jaggery dissolves completely.
- 4 Add coconut milk and cardamom powder to the dal mixture. Mix well and let it simmer on low heat for about 5-7 minutes.
- 5 In a small pan, heat ghee and fry the cashew nuts until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
- 6 In the same ghee, fry the raisins until they puff up. Remove and set aside.
- 7 Add the fried cashew nuts and raisins to the payasa and mix well.
- 8 Add a pinch of salt to enhance the sweetness and mix thoroughly.
- 9 Serve the kadle bele payasa warm or at room temperature.
Tips
Adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of jaggery as per your taste.
