Ingredients

1 cup fresh green chickpeas (Kadle Kayi)
1 tablespoon coconut oil
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 teaspoon urad dal
1 teaspoon chana dal
2 dried red chilies
1 pinch asafoetida
1 sprig curry leaves
1 cup grated fresh coconut
1 teaspoon jaggery
salt to taste

Instructions

  1. 1 Wash the fresh green chickpeas thoroughly and set aside.
  2. 2 Heat coconut oil in a pan over medium heat.
  3. 3 Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  4. 4 Add urad dal, chana dal, and sauté until golden brown.
  5. 5 Break the dried red chilies and add them to the pan along with asafoetida and curry leaves.
  6. 6 Add the washed green chickpeas to the pan and mix well.
  7. 7 Cover and cook for about 10 minutes or until the chickpeas are tender.
  8. 8 Add grated coconut, jaggery, and salt to taste.
  9. 9 Mix everything well and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  10. 10 Serve hot as a side dish.

Tips

For a more authentic flavor, use freshly grated coconut and adjust the jaggery according to your taste preference.
