Ingredients

Mussel 500 grams Mussel , fresh
coconut oil 2 tablespoons Coconut oil
Mustard Seed 1 teaspoon Mustard Seed
Onion 1 cup Onion , finely sliced
ginger-garlic paste 2 teaspoons Ginger-garlic paste
red chili powder 2 teaspoons Red chili powder
turmeric powder 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder
black pepper powder 1 teaspoon Black pepper powder
Fennel 1 teaspoon Fennel , powder
garam masala 1 teaspoon Garam masala
Lemon 1 Lemon , juiced
salt Salt , to taste
Curry Leaf 2 sprigs Curry Leaf
Cilantro 2 tablespoons Cilantro , chopped

Instructions

  1. 1 Clean the kallumakkaya (mussels) thoroughly under running water and set aside.
  2. 2 Heat coconut oil in a pan over medium heat and add mustard seeds. Allow them to splutter.
  3. 3 Add the sliced onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
  4. 4 Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and sauté until the raw smell disappears.
  5. 5 Add red chili powder, turmeric powder, black pepper powder, fennel powder, and garam masala. Mix well.
  6. 6 Add the cleaned mussels to the pan and stir to coat them with the spice mixture.
  7. 7 Season with salt and add curry leaves. Cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mussels are cooked and the spices are well absorbed.
  8. 8 Squeeze lemon juice over the mussels and mix well.
  9. 9 Garnish with chopped coriander leaves before serving.
