Ingredients
| 250 grams | kanduli fish (also known as Indian catfish) |
| 2 tablespoons | mustard oil |
| 1 medium | onion, finely chopped |
| 1 medium | tomato, finely chopped |
| 2 cloves | garlic, minced |
| 1 inch | ginger, grated |
| 2 green chilies | slit |
| 1/2 teaspoon | turmeric powder |
| 1/2 teaspoon | red chili powder |
| 1 teaspoon | cumin powder |
| 1 tablespoon | fresh coriander leaves, chopped |
Instructions
- 1 Clean the kanduli fish thoroughly and set aside.
- 2 Heat mustard oil in a pan until it starts to smoke lightly, then reduce the heat.
- 3 Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
- 4 Add the garlic, ginger, and green chilies, and sauté for another minute.
- 5 Add the chopped tomato, turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and the oil separates.
- 6 Add the cleaned fish to the pan and mix well with the spices.
- 7 Cover and cook on low heat for about 10-12 minutes until the fish is cooked through.
- 8 Once cooked, mash the fish gently with a spatula to blend with the spices.
- 9 Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.
Tips
Ensure the mustard oil is heated properly to reduce its pungency and enhance the flavor of the dish.
