Ingredients

250 grams kanduli fish (also known as Indian catfish)
2 tablespoons mustard oil
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 medium tomato, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 inch ginger, grated
2 green chilies slit
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
1 teaspoon cumin powder
1 tablespoon fresh coriander leaves, chopped

Instructions

  1. 1 Clean the kanduli fish thoroughly and set aside.
  2. 2 Heat mustard oil in a pan until it starts to smoke lightly, then reduce the heat.
  3. 3 Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
  4. 4 Add the garlic, ginger, and green chilies, and sauté for another minute.
  5. 5 Add the chopped tomato, turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and the oil separates.
  6. 6 Add the cleaned fish to the pan and mix well with the spices.
  7. 7 Cover and cook on low heat for about 10-12 minutes until the fish is cooked through.
  8. 8 Once cooked, mash the fish gently with a spatula to blend with the spices.
  9. 9 Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.

Tips

Ensure the mustard oil is heated properly to reduce its pungency and enhance the flavor of the dish.
