1 cup | Chana dal |

1 tablespoon | Oil |

1 teaspoon | Mustard Seed |
|
1 teaspoon | Cumin , seeds |
|
1 pinch | Asafoetida |
|
2 tablespoons | Coconut , grated |
|
1 teaspoon | Red chili powder |
|
1 teaspoon | Turmeric powder |
|
1 teaspoon | Garam masala |
|
1 tablespoon | Tamarind , pulp |
|
1 teaspoon | Jaggery |
|
1 | Salt , to taste |
|
2 tablespoons | Cilantro , chopped |
Instructions
- 1 Rinse the chana dal thoroughly and soak it in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- 2 Drain the soaked dal and pressure cook it with 2 cups of water until soft but not mushy.
- 3 In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add cumin seeds and asafoetida.
- 4 Add the cooked chana dal to the pan along with the water it was cooked in.
- 5 Stir in grated coconut, red chili powder, turmeric powder, god masala, tamarind pulp, and jaggery.
- 6 Season with salt to taste and let the mixture simmer for about 10-15 minutes until the flavors meld together.
- 7 Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
Tips
Adjust the consistency of the amti by adding more water if needed. It should be slightly thick but pourable.
