| 1 tablespoon | oil |
| 1 teaspoon | mustard seeds |
| 1 teaspoon | cumin seeds |
| 1 pinch | asafoetida |
| 2 tablespoons | grated coconut |
| 1 teaspoon | red chili powder |
| 1 teaspoon | turmeric powder |
| 1 teaspoon | god masala or garam masala |

Instructions

- 2 Drain the soaked dal and pressure cook it with 2 cups of water until soft but not mushy.
- 3 In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add cumin seeds and asafoetida.
- 4 Add the cooked chana dal to the pan along with the water it was cooked in.
- 5 Stir in grated coconut, red chili powder, turmeric powder, god masala, tamarind pulp, and jaggery.
- 6 Season with salt to taste and let the mixture simmer for about 10-15 minutes until the flavors meld together.
- 7 Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
Tips
Adjust the consistency of the amti by adding more water if needed. It should be slightly thick but pourable.
