Ingredients

1 cup grated coconut
1 cup finely chopped cabbage
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 tablespoons finely chopped onion
2 dried red chilies
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon tamarind pulp
1 tablespoon chopped coriander leaves

Instructions

  1. 1 Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds.
  2. 2 Once the mustard seeds splutter, add the dried red chilies and sauté for a few seconds.
  3. 3 Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
  4. 4 Add the finely chopped cabbage and stir well.
  5. 5 Sprinkle turmeric powder and salt over the cabbage and mix thoroughly.
  6. 6 Cover the pan and let the cabbage cook on low flame for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. 7 Once the cabbage is cooked, add the grated coconut and mix well.
  8. 8 Add the tamarind pulp and stir to combine all the ingredients.
  9. 9 Cook for another 2-3 minutes and then turn off the heat.
  10. 10 Garnish with chopped coriander leaves before serving.

Tips

For a spicier version, add more dried red chilies or a pinch of red chili powder.
