Ingredients

3 cups puffed rice (murmura)
2 tablespoons oil
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
2 tablespoons peanuts
1 tablespoon chana dal
1 tablespoon urad dal
1 pinch asafoetida (hing)
8-10 curry leaves
2 teaspoons red chili powder
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 tablespoon powdered sugar
salt to taste
1 tablespoon garlic, finely chopped
1 tablespoon fresh coriander, chopped

Instructions

  1. 1 Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat.
  2. 2 Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  3. 3 Add cumin seeds, peanuts, chana dal, and urad dal. Sauté until they turn golden brown.
  4. 4 Add asafoetida and curry leaves. Stir well.
  5. 5 Add finely chopped garlic and sauté until it turns light brown.
  6. 6 Reduce the heat to low and add red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix well.
  7. 7 Add the puffed rice to the pan and mix thoroughly to coat it with the spices.
  8. 8 Add powdered sugar and mix again to combine all the ingredients evenly.
  9. 9 Turn off the heat and let the Bhadang cool down to room temperature.
  10. 10 Garnish with fresh coriander before serving.

Store in an airtight container to keep it crispy for a longer time.
