Ingredients

1 cup koovale (bamboo) leaves
1 cup rice flour
1/4 cup freshly grated coconut
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. 1 Wash the koovale leaves thoroughly and set aside.
  2. 2 In a mixing bowl, combine the rice flour and salt.
  3. 3 Gradually add water to the rice flour mixture, stirring continuously to form a crumbly texture.
  4. 4 Add the freshly grated coconut to the mixture and mix well.
  5. 5 Place a koovale leaf on a flat surface and spread a portion of the rice flour mixture evenly over it.
  6. 6 Fold the leaf over the mixture to form a parcel.
  7. 7 Repeat the process with the remaining leaves and mixture.
  8. 8 Arrange the parcels in a steamer.
  9. 9 Steam the parcels for about 30-35 minutes or until the rice flour is cooked through.
  10. 10 Remove from the steamer and let cool slightly before serving.

Tips

Ensure the rice flour mixture is crumbly and not too wet for the best texture.
