Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon instant yeast
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup warm water
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
vegetable oil for frying
1/4 cup date syrup or honey

Instructions

  1. 1 In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. 2 Gradually add the warm water to the dry ingredients, mixing until smooth.
  3. 3 Stir in the tablespoon of vegetable oil and mix until the batter is well combined.
  4. 4 Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let the batter rest in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
  5. 5 Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
  6. 6 Once the oil is hot, use a spoon to drop small amounts of batter into the oil, forming round balls.
  7. 7 Fry the luqaimat until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides, about 3-4 minutes.
  8. 8 Remove the luqaimat from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  9. 9 Drizzle the warm date syrup or honey over the luqaimat before serving.

Tips

For a more authentic flavor, sprinkle sesame seeds or ground cardamom over the luqaimat before serving.
