Ingredients

250 grams small fish (like Indian anchovy or any small freshwater fish)
1 medium onion, finely sliced
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 inch ginger, finely chopped
2 tablespoons mustard oil
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
salt to taste
2 tablespoons fresh coriander leaves, chopped
1 teaspoon green chili, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1 Clean the fish thoroughly and pat them dry with a kitchen towel.
  2. 2 In a bowl, marinate the fish with turmeric powder and salt. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
  3. 3 Heat mustard oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  4. 4 Add the sliced onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
  5. 5 Add the chopped garlic and ginger, and sauté for another 2 minutes.
  6. 6 Add the marinated fish to the pan and spread them out evenly.
  7. 7 Fry the fish on medium heat until they are crispy and golden brown on both sides, turning occasionally.
  8. 8 Add chopped green chili if using, and sauté for another minute.
  9. 9 Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
