Ingredients

1 cup chana dal
1 cup jaggery
1 cup freshly grated coconut
1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
1 tablespoon ghee
10 cashew nuts
10 raisins
2 cups water

Instructions

  1. 1 Wash the chana dal thoroughly and soak it in water for about 30 minutes.
  2. 2 Drain the soaked chana dal and pressure cook it with 2 cups of water until soft but not mushy.
  3. 3 In a pan, add ghee and roast the cashew nuts and raisins until golden brown. Set aside.
  4. 4 In the same pan, add the cooked chana dal and grated coconut. Mix well.
  5. 5 Add jaggery to the mixture and cook on low heat until the jaggery melts and blends well with the dal and coconut.
  6. 6 Stir in the cardamom powder and mix thoroughly.
  7. 7 Garnish with the roasted cashew nuts and raisins before serving.

Tips

Ensure the chana dal is cooked just right; it should be soft but retain its shape.
