Ingredients
| 1 cup | raw rice |
| 1 cup | grated coconut |
| 1/2 cup | jaggery |
| 1/4 teaspoon | cardamom powder |
| 1/4 teaspoon | salt |
| 2 tablespoons | ghee |
| 2 | banana leaves |
Instructions
- 1 Wash the rice thoroughly and soak it in water for 2 hours.
- 2 Drain the rice and grind it into a smooth batter with a little water. The batter should be thick.
- 3 Mix the grated coconut, jaggery, and cardamom powder in a bowl to make the filling.
- 4 Clean the banana leaves and cut them into rectangular pieces.
- 5 Lightly wilt the banana leaves over an open flame to make them flexible.
- 6 Take a piece of banana leaf and spread a thin layer of rice batter over it.
- 7 Place a spoonful of the coconut-jaggery filling on one half of the batter spread.
- 8 Fold the leaf to cover the filling, creating a parcel.
- 9 Repeat the process with the remaining batter and filling.
- 10 Steam the parcels in a steamer for about 15-20 minutes until the rice batter is cooked.
- 11 Remove from the steamer and let them cool slightly before serving.
Tips
Ensure the banana leaves are clean and flexible to avoid tearing while folding.
