Ingredients

1 cup raw rice
1 cup grated coconut
1/2 cup jaggery
1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons ghee
2 banana leaves

Instructions

  1. 1 Wash the rice thoroughly and soak it in water for 2 hours.
  2. 2 Drain the rice and grind it into a smooth batter with a little water. The batter should be thick.
  3. 3 Mix the grated coconut, jaggery, and cardamom powder in a bowl to make the filling.
  4. 4 Clean the banana leaves and cut them into rectangular pieces.
  5. 5 Lightly wilt the banana leaves over an open flame to make them flexible.
  6. 6 Take a piece of banana leaf and spread a thin layer of rice batter over it.
  7. 7 Place a spoonful of the coconut-jaggery filling on one half of the batter spread.
  8. 8 Fold the leaf to cover the filling, creating a parcel.
  9. 9 Repeat the process with the remaining batter and filling.
  10. 10 Steam the parcels in a steamer for about 15-20 minutes until the rice batter is cooked.
  11. 11 Remove from the steamer and let them cool slightly before serving.

Tips

Ensure the banana leaves are clean and flexible to avoid tearing while folding.
