Ingredients

1 cup fresh grated coconut
3 green chilies
1 small onion
1 inch ginger
2 cloves garlic
1 tablespoon tamarind pulp
1 teaspoon coconut oil
salt to taste

Instructions

  1. 1 Grind the grated coconut, green chilies, onion, ginger, and garlic into a coarse paste using a mortar and pestle or a grinder.
  2. 2 Add the tamarind pulp to the paste and mix well.
  3. 3 Heat the coconut oil in a small pan.
  4. 4 Add the coconut paste to the pan and sauté on low heat for 2-3 minutes until the raw smell disappears.
  5. 5 Add salt to taste and mix well.
  6. 6 Transfer the chammanthi to a serving bowl and serve with Malabar biriyani.

Tips

For an authentic taste, use freshly grated coconut and adjust the number of chilies according to your spice preference.
