Ingredients

1 pound russet potatoes
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/4 cup whole milk
salt to taste
black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. 1 Peel the russet potatoes and cut them into evenly sized chunks.
  2. 2 Place the potato chunks in a large pot and cover them with cold water.
  3. 3 Add a pinch of salt to the water and bring it to a boil over medium-high heat.
  4. 4 Reduce the heat to a simmer and cook the potatoes for 15-20 minutes, or until they are tender when pierced with a fork.
  5. 5 Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot.
  6. 6 Add the butter and milk to the potatoes.
  7. 7 Mash the potatoes using a potato masher or fork until smooth and creamy.

Tips

For extra creaminess, use heavy cream instead of milk.
