Ingredients

500 grams beef, cut into chunks
2 tablespoons mustard oil
1 large onion, sliced
5 cloves garlic, minced
1 inch ginger, minced
2 cups water
2 pieces bay leaves
1 teaspoon black peppercorns
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
2 tablespoons fresh coriander leaves, chopped

Instructions

  1. 1 Heat mustard oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. 2 Add sliced onions and sauté until golden brown.
  3. 3 Add minced garlic and ginger, and sauté for another minute.
  4. 4 Add beef chunks to the pot and brown them on all sides.
  5. 5 Pour in the water and add bay leaves, black peppercorns, salt, and turmeric powder.
  6. 6 Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low.
  7. 7 Cover the pot and let it simmer for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the beef is tender.
  8. 8 Stir occasionally and check if more water is needed to keep the stew from drying out.
  9. 9 Once the beef is cooked and tender, adjust the seasoning if needed.
  10. 10 Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.

Tips

For a richer flavor, marinate the beef with salt and turmeric for 30 minutes before cooking.
