Ingredients

1 cup whole green gram (moong dal)
1/4 cup rice
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 tablespoons ginger, finely chopped
2 tablespoons green chilies, finely chopped
1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds
1/4 teaspoon salt to taste
2 tablespoons oil
1 cup upma (cooked semolina)
1/4 cup coriander leaves, chopped

Instructions

  1. 1 Wash and soak the whole green gram and rice together in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. 2 Drain the soaked mixture and grind it with ginger, green chilies, and cumin seeds to a smooth batter, adding water as needed.
  3. 3 Stir in salt to taste into the batter.
  4. 4 Heat a non-stick pan or griddle over medium heat and drizzle a little oil.
  5. 5 Pour a ladleful of batter onto the pan and spread it in a circular motion to make a thin dosa.
  6. 6 Drizzle a little oil around the edges and cook until the edges start to lift and the bottom is golden brown.
  7. 7 Spread a spoonful of upma over the pesarattu and sprinkle some chopped onions and coriander leaves.
  8. 8 Fold the pesarattu and serve hot with chutney or pickle.

Tips

For a crispier texture, ensure the batter is not too thick and the pan is properly heated before pouring the batter.
