Ingredients
| 2 cups | basmati rice |
| 3 tablespoons | sugar |
| 1 teaspoon | ground cardamom |
| 1 teaspoon | ground cinnamon |
| 1 teaspoon | saffron threads |
| 2 tablespoons | rose water |
| 3 tablespoons | butter |
| 1 pinch | salt |
| 3 cups | water |
Instructions
- 1 Wash and soak the basmati rice in water for 30 minutes, then drain.
- 2 In a large pot, bring 3 cups of water to a boil.
- 3 Add the soaked rice to the boiling water and cook until the rice is half-cooked, about 7-8 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- 4 In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat.
- 5 Add sugar, ground cardamom, ground cinnamon, and saffron threads to the melted butter. Stir until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is fragrant.
- 6 Add the half-cooked rice back into the pot, gently mixing it with the spiced butter mixture.
- 7 Sprinkle the rose water over the rice and add a pinch of salt.
- 8 Cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid, reduce the heat to low, and let the rice steam for about 20-25 minutes until fully cooked and fluffy.
- 9 Remove from heat and let it sit for 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork.
Tips
For extra flavour, use whole spices in the butter first and strain them out before adding the rice.
