Ingredients

1 cup moong dal (split green gram)
1 cup water
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon red chili powder
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
1 tablespoon fresh coriander leaves, chopped
1 cup oil for deep frying

Instructions

  1. 1 Wash the moong dal thoroughly and soak it in water for 4-5 hours or overnight.
  2. 2 Drain the water from the soaked dal and grind it into a coarse paste without adding water.
  3. 3 Transfer the dal paste to a mixing bowl and add cumin seeds, red chili powder, turmeric powder, salt, and ginger-garlic paste.
  4. 4 Mix all the ingredients well to form a thick batter.
  5. 5 Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
  6. 6 Once the oil is hot, drop small portions of the batter into the oil using your fingers or a spoon.
  7. 7 Fry the mungodis until they turn golden brown and crisp on all sides.
  8. 8 Remove the fried mungodis with a slotted spoon and drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  9. 9 Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.

Ensure the oil is hot enough before frying to make the mungodis crispy.
