Ingredients
| 500 grams | mutton, cut into pieces |
| 2 tablespoons | coconut oil |
| 1 teaspoon | mustard seeds |
| 10 | curry leaves |
| 2 | onions, thinly sliced |
| 1 tablespoon | ginger-garlic paste |
| 2 | green chilies, slit |
| 1 teaspoon | turmeric powder |
| 2 tablespoons | coriander powder |
| 1 tablespoon | red chili powder |
| 1 teaspoon | garam masala |
| 1 | tomato, chopped |
| 1 cup | water |
| Salt | to taste |
| 2 tablespoons | coconut slices |
| 1 teaspoon | pepper powder |
Instructions
- 1 Heat coconut oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Allow them to splutter.
- 2 Add curry leaves and sauté for a few seconds.
- 3 Add sliced onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
- 4 Add ginger-garlic paste and green chilies, sauté until the raw smell disappears.
- 5 Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and garam masala. Sauté for a minute.
- 6 Add chopped tomato and cook until it becomes soft and oil separates.
- 7 Add mutton pieces and mix well with the masala.
- 8 Pour in water and add salt to taste. Mix well.
- 9 Cover and cook on low heat until the mutton is tender and the gravy thickens.
- 10 In a separate pan, dry roast coconut slices until golden brown and add to the mutton.
- 11 Finally, sprinkle pepper powder, mix well, and cook for another 5 minutes.
- 12 Serve hot with rice or parathas.
Tips
For a deeper flavor, marinate the mutton with some spices for at least 30 minutes before cooking.
