Ingredients

500 grams natukodi (country chicken), cut into pieces
2 tablespoons oil
1 large onion, finely sliced
2 teaspoons ginger-garlic paste
2 medium tomatoes, finely chopped
2 green chilies, slit
1 teaspoon red chili powder
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon coriander powder
1 teaspoon garam masala
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 sprig curry leaves
salt to taste
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 tablespoons fresh coriander leaves, chopped

Instructions

  1. 1 Heat oil in a heavy-bottomed pan over medium heat.
  2. 2 Add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and curry leaves, and let them splutter.
  3. 3 Add the sliced onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
  4. 4 Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a couple of minutes until the raw smell disappears.
  5. 5 Add the chopped tomatoes and green chilies, and cook until the tomatoes turn soft and mushy.
  6. 6 Mix in the turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cook for a couple of minutes.
  7. 7 Add the natukodi pieces to the pan and stir well to coat them with the masala.
  8. 8 Cover and cook on low heat for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through and tender.
  9. 9 Remove the lid, increase the heat to medium-high, and fry the chicken until the masala thickens and coats the chicken pieces well.
  10. 10 Sprinkle garam masala and lemon juice over the chicken, mix well, and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  11. 11 Garnish with chopped coriander leaves before serving.

Tips

For a more authentic flavor, use fresh natukodi (country chicken) instead of broiler chicken.
